Update on the current state of mobile apps in Australian Universities

Update on the current state of mobile websites and applications both internally and externally created for universities across Australia.

ACU – has a mobile website, but no apps, internally or externally created.

ANU – no mobile website, but has an Open Day app, although it is now out of date, still provides plenty of useful information for students on campus.

Bond – mobile website, and has ‘Bond Mobile’ created by Blackboard.  App provides standard features without requiring login, login allows students/staff to sync.

CQU – has a mobile website, but no apps, internally or externally created.

CDU – no mobile website, has an app powered by Blackboard.  App provides few of the standard features, no login options.

Curtin - has a mobile website, currently has ‘Curtin Library’ and ‘iPortfolio Mobile’

ECU – has a mobile version of their website, but requires login.  No app, internally or externally created.

Flinders – no mobile website, two version of the same app, ‘Flinders University’ and ‘Flinders University Lite’, the Lite version allows downloading without requiring access to WIFI due to the size of the larger app.

Griffith – has a mobile website integrated to allow users to swap between mobile and standard view.  App powered by Blackboard, includes transit information as well as iTunes connectability.

JCU – no mobile website, externally made app by JCU Student Union, using the flimsy PokitPal, JCUNav created by an individual for navigating campus.

LaTrobe – has a mobile version of their website.  App for browsing courses based on ATAR scores.

Macquarie – no mobile website, and no app, internally or externally created.

Monash – no mobile website, student union app, created by PokitPal still exists, however Monash University have invested in their own app ‘Monash’, designed by one of their students and maintained by internal IT Division.

Murdoch – has a mobile version of their website, but no app, internally or externally created.

QUT – mobile website is called ‘QUT Virtual Mobile’, QUT also has ‘QUT Mobile’ as their app, which links with mobile website.

RMIT – has a mobile version of their website, and has a mobile app (requires login).

SCU – website has a mobile website format, as well as a mobile app ‘Mobile@SCU’ with 4.5(out of 5) star rating.

Swinburne – has a mobile website, but no app, internally or externally created.

UoA – has a mobile website, and an app created by the Student Union using PokitPal.

UoB – no mobile website, but has an app created by the Student Union using PokitPal.

UoC – no mobile website, has an app ‘Career Finder’ created by an external group ‘Grey Canberra’, requested by University of Canberra.

UoM – Formatted website looks better than the mobile (http://m.unimelb.edu.au) version.  No app, internally or externally created.

UNE – no mobile website, has an app ‘UNEMobile’ created by an external group ‘campusM’, which compares to those created by Blackboard, as well as providing a suite of extra user interactions to the user.

UNSW – no mobile website, however has several apps, both internally and externally created.  UNSW has created 4 apps(‘UNSW Uni-Verse’, ‘UNSW Library’, ‘UNSW Green’, ‘UNSW Green Trail’), and there are 3 external apps(‘Unofficial UNSW Map’, ‘Arc Publications’, ‘UNSW Engineering Open Day’).

UoN – has a mobile website, has an internally created app ‘UoN’ as well as 2 student union created apps (‘iCampus’ and ‘The U at UoN’) using PokitPal for 2 of their campuses.

UND – no mobile website, and no app, internally or externally created.

UQ – no mobile website, but has an app ‘UQNav’, created internally.  Also has 2 externally created apps, one by the Student Union ‘UQU Companion’ and one by of their medical student ‘UQ Med Lite’

UniSA – no mobile website, but has an internally created app ‘PC Finder’ as well as an app created by the Student Union.

USQ – has a mobile website, and an app ‘USQ SG Connect’ created using PokitPal, by the Student Union.

UoS – has a mobile website, but no app, internally or externally created.

UoT – no mobile website, but has an app ‘UTAS’ created by an external group ‘Desire2Learn Incorporated’.

UTS – has a mobile website, and has 3 apps (‘UTS Union Your Campus’, ‘UTS Student Info’, ‘UTS Open Day’) created by 3 separate external groups, 2 students and the Student Union.

USC – no mobile website, and no app, internally or externally created.

UWA – no mobile website, and no app, internally or externally created.

UoW – no mobile website,  but has an externally created app ‘UOW FindMySpot’.

VU – has a mobile website, and has an internally created app ‘VU’.
